All students and staff will wear masks this season. Girls will wear white cotillion gloves for all dances,

Thanks for your encouraging notes and emails about the upcoming season.

The 2020 American Association of Etiquette Professionals National Conference
due to be hosted in Bentonville, Arkansas in late March of 2020, but was held virtually since members were coming from coast to coast and wanted to insure everyone stayed safe this spring. We have continued to meet sometimes weekly over this year to discuss all things etiquette and best practices. All of our virtual meetings have been a "bonus" that has come from this different year and friendships between members have been a treasure.
Past conferences that the BRJC director has attended have been held in Memphis, Boston and Denver.

It is an honor to be an active member of the American Association of Etiquette Professionals to be current on trending etiquette topics and best practices in teaching etiquette concepts.

ABOUT BENTONVILLE-ROGERS JUNIOR COTILLION

Picture
The Bentonville-Rogers Junior Cotillion is proud to announce our 13th season to be held starting on March 13th, 2021. Founded in 2008, the Bentonville-Rogers Junior Cotillion is a four-year program for children in the sixth through ninth grades whose mission is to improve the self-esteem, confidence, and social skills of boys and girls. The curriculum includes the teaching of dance and social graces with the goal of making the students comfortable in any social setting that they may encounter. New students may gladly join after the sixth grade year, but must complete the review workshops offered.

Manners and etiquette are taught and put into practice at each cotillion event. Line dances, as well as, traditional ballroom partner dances are introduced. Proper etiquette for receiving lines, grand marches, trading partners, introductions, and serving of refreshments are mastered early in the program and are expanded upon each year they attend.

The 13th season consists of two events (extended time) to be held on selected Saturdays during March and April of 2021. The regular fall season of six sessions will return in the Fall of 2021.
Season dates are posted under each cotillion groups information.

The  Spring 2021 season dates will be held at the Benton County Fairgrounds Auditorium for this season only.
We will be back at our normal location at Riordan Hall Auditorium in Bella Vista for the fall of 2021.
For the Fall of 2021 dances will be in the evenings only.

Due to space limitations and anticipated guidelines, our Spring Ball this year will be just for the students.
** Please note, we will follow the event guidelines for group gatherings. Thanks for your understanding.

Applications are open for the 13th season of the Bentonville-Rogers Junior Cotillion.
BRJC Cotillion Season Spring 2021 dates will be:
  March 13th and April 3rd.
Please make note of times for each group for this season under the individual group.
(New Student Training for NEW 7th, 8th, and 9th graders will be before the season starts.)
Early Applications are recommended as acceptances are first applied, first accepted.

application process

Picture
Applications remain open for our 13th season to start on March 13th, and early application is definitely recommended as our acceptance rule is first come, first accepted, and classes often fill up before the season start date. Invitations and waiting list letters will be emailed in February for this season, but students are accepted this date if there is a spot for them. Full tuition is due to be received by March 6th, 2021, so that class registration and planning can be made, and there are no refunds for tuition after that date.

Our policy is to strive to have a partner for every child.

Applications for the 13th season are open at this time for our season beginning date of March 13th.
Fall 2021 applications will not be accepted until after March 15th, 2021 due to the late start of this season.

New BRJC 7th, 8th and 9th Grade Applicants: Applications are still being accepted New 7th, 8th or 9th graders must attend a workshop before the season starts. This workshop for new 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students is mandatory, but casual in dress, and will get the students caught up on manners sessions and dances that they missed in the previous year(s). The manners sessions and dance instruction builds on previous year(s) material, so new students attendance is so helpful so that they can walk in confidently into the returning group of students, and a great way for the director to get to know all the new students as well. No extra workshop is required for sixth graders, as they are all new to cotillion in this grade.

Legacy privilege: The legacy privilege is a courtesy extended to younger siblings. The oldest child will pass their legacy to the second child, etc. Legacy applications must be received by March 1st preceding the 6th grade. The legacy privilege will not be honored after this date. For a child entering the 6th grade to be considered a legacy, the older sibling must have completed the 9th grade class or an older sibling must be currently enrolled and paid for the upcoming season.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Review Lessons: If a student misses a dance, the student should attend a review lesson  on the next cotillion date following the dance missed. Time for each group will be emailed to parents. All students that miss a dance are expected to attend a make-up lesson so they won’t be behind on dance instruction and manners lessons. Review lesson for the April 3rd date will be set for after the season and students will receive an email with date and time for that review lesson.

Carpools: For this upcoming cotillion season, parents will need to make best choices for their families for all carpools and after cotillion activities. It is recommended that students not join carpools for this Spring season to help keep everyone respecting social distance guidelines. BRJC is not responsible for carpool formations.

Drop-Off and Pick-Up: Students should arrive 10-15 minutes before their dance starts and should follow the carpool lines for drop-off by the entrance. Please pick-up by the same route. Students will not be allowed to go into the parking lot or cross the street to parked cars unless a parent  or helper escorts them. Please be on time to pick up your child.

Spring Ball Chaperones**:
** Spring Ball Chaperones will not be allowed for the Spring season in 2021 based on what the current group gathering size requirements. We hope that we can have chaperones at our next cotillion season in Fall of 2021. Thanks for being understanding on this matter so that we can stay in proper guidelines that may occur at that time.

This is a change for this season. Gentleman may also wear semi-formal or formal attire, for the Spring Ball. The most important thing is that we are learning together.

The eighth and ninth grade class is also invited to attend a 4-course instructional etiquette dinner, that will be held in late spring for a separate fee. Students in those grades can attend the dinner in their 8th grade and 9th grade years.

testimonials

"Just a quick note to share that our daughter was showing her cotillion experience this past weekend while attending a formal wedding. Watching her do the Cha Cha Cha in a sea of adults was gratifying. Thank you for doing what you do! We believe she gained the confidence to dance amongst strangers; enjoying herself from her BRJC experience. Thank you." --Jill S. Rogers, AR

"I could not wait for my sons to start Cotillion. I had heard wonderful things about it for years prior to them coming to the age they could attend. It did not disappoint. The boys enjoy learning the dances and discussing manners. The dress up nights are so fun for the boys. They have great respect for Mrs. Swindell and her helpers. Thank you for offering this to the youth of NWA."
--Sara H., Bentonville, AR

"As a parent of two children who have been actively involved in the BRJC cotillion from 6th-9th grades and one as a helper, BRJC has been invaluable in building their confidence in many social situations. As I've watched both perform numerous dance numbers in school musicals with such confidence and ease, I have no doubt their foundation in cotillon helped tremendously! In today's society, proper cell phone etiquette and the importance of a hand written thank you note seems to go by the wayside, but BRJC has helped our son and daughter remember the value of these mannerly life skills. Thanks."--Melody W., Bentonville, AR

"BRJC has helped our son grow into a confident, well-mannered, responsible man...and the bonus is that he knows how to dance! Thank you Mrs. Swindell for the positive experience."--Sandra S., Rogers, AR

"Our son has enjoyed both participating and being a helper at BRJC. We appreciate all that you do to make a difference in the young lives that attend Cotillion. The kids have a ball socializing with friends and learning dance steps, all the while improving their manners! We appreciate the fact that you are layering onto lessons that we work on at home. As we know, it takes a village to develop children into adulthood, and BRJC is teaching life lessons that they can take with them forever. Thank you!"-Candy F., Bentonvillle, AR

"My people skills have improved by great lengths from the time I started BRJC to now. Mrs. Swindell pairing us with a new partner each time helped me become close with a group of people, when walking in I knew no one. It has also helped me in a professional sense when talking to teachers, CEO's, and managers. My ease to create good conversation is all a testament to Mrs. Swindell's teaching."
--former participant, Bentonville, AR

"There are a few things that I have enjoyed about the Bentonville-Rogers Junior Cotillion.  I always loved meeting people from the area that I would not have had the chance to interact with otherwise. Cotillion made ballroom dancing a fun activity for me to share with my friends. The manner sessions were both relevant and important lessons for us to learn. I learned many things at cotillion and made so many enjoyable memories."--former participant, Rogers, AR
